Well, as if turning 25 was not daunting enough, popular culture has given a name to this life-event in referring to the insecure feeling that one might experience when approaching her (gulp) mid 20's... a Quarter-Life Crisis! John Mayer, in all his post-college graduation musings, sang this catchy phrase in an early song* and it has turned up all over the place: magazines, VH1 shows, (ok maybe not everywhere but a lot of places), and most recently on more than one voicemail i received for my birthday. This sentiment is sweeping the nation and I for one think it needs to stop! Gosh, I am only 25, this is not a crisis!! It is not like I was turning something really terrifying, like 28!! (jk)
So having lived for a quarter of a century, i celebrated accordingly. After all that living one needs a little rest, so my family surprised me with a day at the Ihilani Resort Spa! It was amazing: saunas, steam rooms, needle showers, herbal baths, endless cups of organic tangerine tea with honey, lemon iced water, cozy reading rooms, rooftop pools that overlook the ocean, hi-tech workout facilities, and (my favorite) a traditional Hawaiian Lomi lomi massage. So me and my ipod spent the day in a dreamy robe and slippers wondering why I am so blessed!! I did sneak in my cell phone but got dirty looks from several rich older Japanese women when my disco ring tone disturbed their serenity, so I promptly put it back in my locker.
At the end of my blissful day, after returning all the missed calls, the gang and i headed to Azul for a beautiful dinner! When i finally got back home, the most beautiful bouquet of flowers (Thank you so much, Bryan!!) was waiting for me!! Altogether it was a totally unforgettable Birthday!!
In other news, Carbon Leaf is something that everyone should be listening to, they might be already, but i just started. It is like someone blended Nickel Creek with Flogging Molly, sprinkled in a dash of Semisonic and soaked it in sunshine and honesty! I really like it!
*Bonus point to whoever can name the John Mayer song.
